Ben & Jerry's Justice Remix'd
Ben & Jerry's Justice Remix'd is labeled as "Cinnamon and Chocolate Ice Creams with Gobs of Cinnamon Bun Dough & Spicy Fudge Brownies". This flavor is made partnering with the Advancement Project National Office in fighting for social justice. The brand believes justice should be for everyone, not just the white and wealthy. Ben & Jerry's is speaking out in the best way they know of — with a euphoric ice cream flavor — for an end to structural racism in our broken criminal legal system. If you look closely this is a combination of Chocolate Fudge Brownie and the cinnamon gob dough from Cinnamon Buns. The only deviance is there is a cinnamon ice cream in Justice compared to the caramel base that was used in Cinnamon Buns. Let us see how this combination comes together and if it does Ben & Jerry's current lineup Justice.
The chocolate base from Ben & Jerry's is not one of the companies highlights. The chocolate is subtle in flavor, but has a smooth and creamy consistency. The flavor is similar to sweetened cocoa powder. The Cinnamon ice cream is sweet, and has a lingering luscious flavor that is stronger then its counterpart chocolate ice cream. Cinnamon and Chocolate can be a double edge sword combination as some people will love it, and some won't. I personally thought these two ice creams well together, but it is not one of the best combinations we have seen from the brand in the past.
The highlight of the pint is the gobs of cinnamon bun dough. If you have ever had Cinnamon Buns you know exactly what I am talking about. These mix-ins have a buttery undertone, are extremely soft in texture, and melt in your mouth. The cinnamon ice cream gets an upgrade with this inclusion due to the cinnamon spice that feeds off the richness of the dough. The other addition in Justice Remix'd is spicy fudge brownies. The brownies are made from Greyston bakery, which is one of Ben & Jerry's best baked goods thrown into their ice cream. The brownies are softer then the dough, have a dense chocolate fudge flavor, and a faint kick of spice. Even if you are not a person who enjoys spicy desserts this should not steer you away from trying this unrefined mix in from the brand.
Going into this pint I had my doubts just by reading the description. While this is not one of the strongest limited edition offerings from the brand it is not their worst. I personally would of liked a stronger ratio of brownies to bun dough as I found two total brownies throughout the experience. If you can't find this local I would not go out of your way to pick it up online or drive to a scoop shop (unless it is very close). If you are a real big fan of cinnamon and chocolate you may find this a lot more enjoyable then myself.
