Ample Hills Corn to Run
Ample Hills Corn to Run is labeled as "Creamy corn ice cream with cornmeal crumble and blueberry swirls". Corn to Run was a runner up in the Flavor Frenzy in 2018 to Peanut Butter Munchies. The demand for this flavor was surreal as it sold out very quickly. Ample Hills then brought it back for a very limited run, which sold out almost instantly. I missed out multiple times on scooping this flavor, but I have heard nothing but great things. How does it stack up vs all the other greats from Ample Hills?
First of all I am not a huge corn fan, so going into this pint I had my doubts. Just popping the lid you get an authentic corn aroma that fills the air around you. The creamy corn ice cream is incredible. It blisters your taste buds with a rich corn sweetness that resembles corn on the cob plastered with melted butter. The richness and creaminess of the ice cream is spectacular. The corn aspect may play a factor here, but I found it to be one of the best compared to all the flavors I have ever scooped in the Ample Hills lineup.
In Corn to Run this flavor features a cornmeal crumble and blueberry swirls. You can see both lingering on the surface of the ice cream, which is always a very good sign. The initial taste packs a delicious sweet and salty cornbread flavor that has a gritty crunch. The size of the cornmeal can vary from little shards to boulder size balls as you work your way down the pint. The blueberry swirls are a foreshadow to the sheer amount of cornmeal laced throughout the pint. While present they offer a fruity touch that packs a luscious sweetness to offset the density of the corn base. Think of the swirls as a blueberry jam that is spread on top of a freshly baked good.
At first I was skeptical, but now I am a believer. Corn to Run is one of Ample Hills finest flavors to date. For folks who cannot access scoop shops to experience exclusive flavors, this is an opportunity you can not pass up. If you have the funds grab a few pints, and stock up before it is gone.
