Ample Hills Baked/Unbaked
Ample Hills Baked/Unbaked is labeled as "Rich vanilla bean ice cream with house made chocolate chip cookies and brown butter cookie dough." This is a flavor I have not tried as it was just made available on choose your own story. This has been a flavor sold in shops for years, but luckily the demand was so high it was brought to online ordering. How well does this flavor stack against what is already offered on the Choose Your Own Story for online ordering?
The Vanilla base may remind you of one of Ample Hills famous flavors Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. The vanilla base provides a creamy, rich, and dense with an absolutely perfect mouthfeel. The vanilla flavor isn’t super strong, but instead has a vanilla bean inclusion provides an over the top sweetness. The dual effects of the flavor give the ice cream a very unique depth that you do not find in a basic flavor such as vanilla. Ample Hills is known for quality and they continue to show it with the variety of ice cream bases they provide on their line.
The mix-ins consisting of house made chocolate chip cookies and brown butter cookie dough. The taste of the brown butter cookie dough is actually pretty good, with a unique deep fatty buttery flavor and solid dough grittiness. The pieces are small balls laced throughout the pint that provide a chewy compliment in conjunction with chocolate chip cookies. The cookies bring a hybrid chew with a crunchy outside like any good cookie should with mini chocolate chip. The fresh baked undertone enhances the brown butter cookie dough to amplify the experience of both mix-ins. When the base and cookies hit your spoon it is like you are dunking them in a fresh glass of milk.
Ample Hills thrives with their base vanilla bean ice cream and throwing together house made cookies and cookie dough. The only gripe I have is the density of flavor in the cookie dough and cookies could be stronger. There was only a select handful of mix-ins throughout the experience, which leaves you lingering for more. This is a good option for those who truly love cookies and cookie dough. Other consumers may be looking for more out of this option such as an added swirl to intensify the experience. Since it is new to CYOS I would suggest grabbing a pint for yourself and trying it out.
