Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Core
Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Core is labeled as "Cookie Milk ice cream with fudge chips & a chocolate chip cookie dough core." In the three new core flavors, Ben & Jerry's yet again added new bases and innovative core flavors. The biggest concern over the years of scooping the core flavors is the lack of quality control with the core reaching the bottom and mix-in consistency. Let us see if Ben & Jerry's latest and greatest flavors can rise to the occasion.
The cookie milk ice cream is something I had to pinpoint after taking my first spoonful. After it hit me the light bulb went off to base resembling Chocolate Nougat Crunch. The cookie milk was more of a glorified sweet cream with the aftertaste getting the cookie vibe and a hint of brown sugar. While this is something new to the Ben & Jerry lineup for anyone who enjoys cookie dough this flavor will slap on your taste buds with a pleasant surprise.
As you dig into the core right off the bat it is thicker and harder than normal. When scooping a core pint you will want to let it sit at least 5-10 minutes as if it doesn't temper it can throw off the texture of the light and creamy ice cream. The core does taste like cookie dough with an enhanced brown sugar flavor and malty aftertaste. This really is the most unique factor of the pint and they did a good job of replicating it, but the core does lack density. The core starts on the side of the pint and loses consistency towards the halfway point. The fudge chips are added to enhance the chocolate portion of cookie dough to replicate a chocolate chip cookie. They do not add much as the base and core overpower the small mix-in inclusion.
The core series yet again is off with their quality control of the core. This time the core is extra firm compared to the original flavors. As much as the company markets I have yet to ever scoop a pint that looks like what they showcase before rolling them into stores. Since I am a huge cookie dough fan I enjoyed this, but it could have been much better with improved consistency of the core, and a stronger chocolate mix-in.
