Graeter's Mint Cookies & Cream
Graeter's Mint Cookies & Cream is a seasonal flavor that runs throughout the month of march every year. Graeter's labels this flavor as "mint flavored ice cream with large chunks of Oreo Cookies." If you have ever had Graeter's original cookies & cream flavor you know they do not play around when it comes to density and mix-in size with whole chunks of Oreo cookies. Graeter's also ran a limited edition bonus flavor in 2018 for Cheesecake Cookies & Cream, which was another spectacular offering to their line. None the less it is March, and let us see how well this minty dessert ranks with the rest of the flavors from the brand.
Graeter's mint base is rich and creamy with a refreshing minty-ness that steers clear of any dominant peppermint flavor. It’s a pleasant and genuine base that isn’t too sweet or too powerful in any way. Coming from someone who does not have a strong desire for mint this provided the right amount of aftertaste to compliment a dense ice cream. All in all if you are not a big mint fan do not be scared to indulge in this ice cream base. I went into this with an open mind and came out really enjoying how well Graeter's nailed this base.
The Oreo cookies are absolutely enormous. Graeter's takes whole Oreo sandwich cookies and throws them in the french pot process. This provides thick chunks throughout your experience. You could essentially call the base ice cream "mint chocolate cookie” with how many Oreo’s are integrated here, as you will rarely find a bite that is just plain mint ice cream. This flavor reminds me of a shamrock shake from McDonald's that has been filled with Oreo cookies, smashed into creamy perfection, mixed, frozen, and served in a pint.
Any Cookies & Cream flavors off the Graeter's line is always going to be loaded. Graeter's is known to make top-tier mix-ins that enhance their ice cream bases to greater extent. Even not being a huge mint fan I would was never overpowered by the peppermint to make me not appreciate this flavor. Graeter's found a happy medium, and made me a believer in their mint ice cream. Job well done!
