Haagen Dazs Spirits Irish Cream Brownie
Haagen Dazs Spirits Irish Cream Brownie is labeled as "Irish Cream infused into our ice cream with rich chocolate brownie pieces and a decadent fudge swirl." Häagen-Dazs has finally brought the Spirits Collection to the United States after this being exclusive only to Canada. Each of the Spirit products does contain forms of alcohol but in a very small amount. These products all contain less than 0.5% alcohol, so you won't get drunk on them alone. They do make solid additions to cocktails and ice cream floats, though, so do with that information what you will. None the less let us see what Canada has been hiding from us for over 365+ days.
The Irish cream base was unique because Irish cream is alcohol made with Irish whiskey, cream, and coffee. When I took my first scoop there is a dense, creamy, and flavorful vanilla initial taste that is soon complemented with a bold vanilla bean aftertaste. The alcohol taste is present, but very mild due to only having a minimal amount of alcohol in the ice cream base. The biggest takeaway for me was how well Haagen Dazs executes their bases. Take luscious vanilla and elevates a vanilla bean coffee creamer like aftertaste together. Even if you do not drink coffee or drink alcohol the small vibes you get from the base won't steer you away from indulging on this ice cream.
The rich chocolate brownie pieces and decadent fudge swirl were the biggest letdowns in this pint. As much as I was looking forward to them both aspects were far from being seen. I did get 4 brownie pieces throughout the pint, but they are not much larger than Ben & Jerry's fudge flakes. The brownies have a rich cocoa taste that are moist, chewy, and melt in your mouth good. I can't comment on the swirl because it was simply never seen.
Haagen Dazs may make a killer ice cream base, but they have gone 0/2 on Spirits pints when it comes to mix-in density and consistency. Two of the Spirits pints I picked up have left me with no swirl. While the brownie pieces were present there simply was not enough of them to accommodate an Irish cream base. You may have better luck then myself, but if you do this pint has a lot of potential due to how good the brownies were in such a limited amount on top of adding a fudge swirl.
