Ample Hills PB Wins the Cup
Ample Hills PB Wins the Cup is labeled as "Sweet Cream Base with Peanut Butter Chocolate flakes and House-made Peanut Butter Cups". One thing I really liked about this pint is AH decided to go with a sweet cream base. While Sweet Cream is usually seen in milk and cookie or cookie and cream-based flavors this is a unique pair with chocolate and peanut butter. This flavor may look awfully familiar if you think about Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter cup except for the different base.
The sweet cream base was similar to one of my favorite pints Sweet as Honey. The amount of sweetness and cream blend together very well as it has a very high butterfat content to enhance the flavor. It's not a true oreo cream center like you would picture a sweet cream to be, but think about bold vanilla with a creamy enhancement. While Ample Hill's vanilla is a top tier flavor off their line this one is a step above.
The peanut butter chocolate flakes were a close replica of Ben & Jerry's Fudge flakes. These small broken pieces of chocolate pack melt in your mouth but the name is a touch misleading to what you would expect. I was hoping to get a peanut butter aftertaste, but that was not the case. The house-made peanut butter cups are fantastic. The peanut butter has an extra hint of sweetness that meshes with the dense peanut butter cream center.
My expectations were high, and they were not let down. A premium base, incredible mix-ins, and a peanut butter lovers dream come true. Between PB Wins the Cup and PB For President it is hard to decide what I like better, but I would give the edge to PB 4 President due to the cake pieces offered. If you were a fan of Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup go into this one expecting a surmounting upgrade.
