High Road Vanilla BeanThis is my first venture into High Road's ice creams after a fantastic experience with their cookies. High Road Ice Cream is a craft, premium ice cream. Many ice cream companies begin with commercially available bases or have a dairy make a base for them. High Road makes their own and has 10 different bases that Chef Schroeder and his team created, depending on the desired result. High Road Vanilla Bean is simply a vanilla bean base. While this is very simple on paper you have to remember the quality high road brings to the table. Their bases are made with 16% buttermilk fat. Therefore the density and flavor are much stronger then what you find in many grocery brands. Digging into the ice cream the thickness is present from the very first spoonful. Vanilla Bean is a unique flavor. Vanilla bean is used in flavoring most desserts, including ice cream, custard, cake, candy, and pudding. I also find it as one of my favorite coffee creamer flavors. The richness and purity of this base is phenomenal. I would put this right up there as the top vanilla bases on the ice cream market next to Graeter's. As you dig in the luscious sweetness in the aftertaste sets the tone for a great experience. I will say this is the perfect compliment to put on heated up cookies, pies or other desserts for the holidays. If you have this nearby or want to make an online purchase this is a flavor I would scoop. It is very complex, but it delivers on all aspects in a vanilla bean flavored ice cream.
