Ample Hills Peanut Butter Jamboree
To celebrate the 90th anniversary of Mickey Mouse, Ample Hills collaborated with Disney to make three pints of birthday cake ice cream flavors chock-full of Disney magic. Around each pint, Ample Hils used a comic strip set during one of Mickey's birthdays. The company collaborated closely with Disney to create these three original Mickey Mouse stories and ice cream flavors. Peanut Butter Jamboree is vanilla bean ice cream mixed with chunks of strawberry cake, ribbons of peanut butter frosting and Mickey-shaped peanut butter pieces literally jam-packed with strawberry jam.
Ample Hills vanilla bean base is made with steeped Mexican vanilla beans and Madagascar bourbon vanilla extract. The creaminess and quality of the texture set the tone for a great pint experience right off the get-go. With how bold this flavor lingers on your taste buds it has you digging back for more. With how well the company executed this base I see why they provide it as just a solo base on their ice cream lineup.
The common theme in the Mickey Mouse series is the cake is lacking in the pints when it comes to consistency. While the cake is high caliber quality the flavor is hard to pick up since there are no more than three pieces in the entire pint. The strawberry is a soft aftertaste to the overpowering vanilla bean base. The peanut butter ribbons and mickey mouse pieces were limited. When found the jam filling in the candy complimented the cake pieces to strengthen the strawberry element. With the peanut butter swirl so light and only a few candies, the peanut butter taste fades quickly.
Going into this pint as a huge PB&J fan I had higher hopes. On the bright side, the vanilla bean base is superb. The richness of the vanilla bean reminded me of drinking a coffee creamer swirled into a decadent dessert. The peanut butter swirls were good but needed more pop and saltiness. The sparse jam cake and mickey mouse pieces left more to be desired.
