Graeter's Maple Cinnamon Crunch
Graeter's Maple Cinnamon Crunch is labeled as "creamy, maple ice cream with cinnamon sugar shortbread pieces." Reminiscent of cinnamon sugar cereal with a maple twist, it will leave you wondering: is ice cream now a breakfast food?
What I like about this flavor is Graeter's went outside of the box with an unrefined mix-in and base. Both have never been used in flavors before. With something new there will be question on how good they executed, so let us find out!
First of all maple ice cream's are not common on the ice cream market, let alone to the Graeter's line. The maple is dense and packed full of flavor. This is not like true maple syrup you would buy in the grocery store, but a very good job of trying to replicate it into a frozen desert. The deeper I bit into the cone the more it grew on me. As this ice cream tempered the creaminess and maple flavoring was pure and the sweetness was phenomenal.
The solo mix in with this bonus flavor is cinnamon sugar shortbread pieces. The best part about this was how consistent the mix-ins were evenly distributed in the scoops I got. The shortbread pieces reminded me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. The slightly cinnamon undertone in each bite helps compliment the maple base. The shortbread was soft, moist, and melted in your mouth when biting into them. They were a hybrid of a cereal chunk and butter cake in texture.
This creation is my favorite of the bonus flavors released so far this summer. The soft cake-like shortbread pieces and the noteworthy maple base paired perfectly. There was the right amount of cinnamon to amplify the experience. If you like Cinnamon Toast Crunch this is a replica in ice cream.
