Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby
Ben n Jerry's Chubby Hubby is "Vanilla malt ice cream with peanutty fudge-covered pretzels with fudge & peanut buttery swirls." Many of you may not have the opportunity to have an identical flavor from Handel's which is called Spouse Like a House. A few things that swirled in my head before cracking this pint were: How well do the pretzel's hold up when frozen into a dessert? At 340 calories will the flavor match the label!? We will soon find out where this ranks on the B&J lineup!
Looking at the opening of the pint you are surrounded with swirls of fudge and peanut butter that are on the premise of a vanilla malt ice cream base. Now Ben & Jerry's is known to have a better vanilla base than a chocolate base, so I already had higher standards going into this pint. The vanilla malt is bold, rich, and has a sweet luscious aftertaste. What I like about this base is it gives just the right amount of flavor to compliments the mix-ins that are provided. Not one spoonful do you find an aspect overpowering each other. This is one of Ben & Jerry's base flavors you wish was utilized in more flavors on their lineup.
The First bite showed a glimpse of a massive fudge covered pretzel piece and a good peanut butter swirl that coated the ice cream. The crunchy outside fudge shell of the pretzels are loaded with thick creamy peanut butter center. Mix-in consistency can be hit or miss, but this flavor was surmounting with fudge covered pretzels. It was every other bite my spoon was crackling to the amount of mix-ins I was striking. The sheer size of them was resembled mini golf balls.
As I dug through the pint it was evident that this pint is not shy on mix-ins or swirls. When thinking of the other PB pints (Pb World, PB Cup, and Chocolate PB Cup), this rose well above in terms of mix-ins . The fudge and peanut butter swirls are slivers that run along side the immense pretzels. They pack an enhanced flavor that combine perfectly to enhance the fudge and vanilla malt base. Fudge and peanut butter swirls are two of the better swirls by Ben & Jerry's, so this was the correct move when designing this pint.
Overall this is hands down an all time top 5 flavor, if not top 3. If you have any liking for fudge and peanut butter you need to look no further. You may be partial to PB World with the milk chocolate base and pb swirls, but this is a flavor that just never gets old. Large mix-ins, a great vanilla malt base, and swirls that put the perfect pieces to the puzzle together.
Score : A
