Haagen Dazs Banana Peanut Butter Chip
Haagen Dazs Banana Peanut Butter Chip is labeled as "Ribbons of rich peanut butter and bits of chocolate chips are folded into sweet banana ice cream". For most American's peanut butter and chocolate is a match made in heaven. My local grocery store (Wegmans) makes a fantastic flavor that is very close to this in resemblance. I am eager to see if HD and their premium bases and surpass another grocery ice cream.
After my first bite the banana base is not as rich as I expected. While the banana flavor is there it it tarnished and tastes like banana laffy taffy. Think about the candy you would grab in a local gas station when you were traveling. This is not the densest or richest flavor I have had off the HD line, but I anticipated more from a company that excels with their premium ice cream. The subtle flavor this ice cream provides is enough to enjoy, but not too strong to turn consumers away. I personally find it as a perfect balance for a banana if someone is not a big fruit fan.
The peanut butter swirl was large and in charge. Right from the surface all the way down to the very last bite. The swirl is thick and crunchy similar to Turkey Hill in their Peanut Butter & Co Banana offering. The thick texture is not the typical creamy, smooth, and salty peanut butter you find in most ice creams. The chocolate chips are smaller then what you would get in a local grocery baking aisle. They are folded in each and every spoonful to give you a chocolate and peanut butter combination to truly enjoy.
The star of the show is the swirl and the mix-ins as the base is more of an aftertaste as you dig deeper into your experience. While this was a great flavor to me, the density of the banana flavor may be too light for some consumers. If you want a stronger banana ice cream look into Steve's Banana Pudding or Wegmans Banana Peel' N as my top choices. I found this one to be a great scoop and would grab this again when on sale.
