Clementine's Gooey Pumpkin Caramel Pecan
Clementine's Gooey Pumpkin Caramel Pecan is labeled as "Pumpkin ice cream with chunks of pumpkin caramel pecan gooey butter cake." Clementine's gets their butter cake from Park Ave. Coffee in St. Louis. If you ever had their original butter cake flavor you know how good it truly is. I have had close to a dozen pumpkin ice creams, so I am eager to see where this one joins the ranks.
The pumpkin base is first class as expected from Clementine's. The density of this base is much thicker then S'mores, Caramel Apple Pie, and Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Pie which did temper much quicker. The initial pumpkin flavor is heavy, but you soon taste the cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove spices in the aftertaste. This came very close to overcoming the pumpkin base from Handel's which is still my #1 favorite on the market. Both are neck and neck when you compare their creaminess and texture. What gives Handel's the upper hand is how dominant the spices compliment the fantastic base.
The pumpkin caramel pecan gooey butter cake is an upgrade from the original flavor on the lineup. The butter cake is packed with a bold buttery richness. The texture of the mix-ins are very soft, moist, and provide an incredible chewy aspect. As you bite into the butter cake you do get a slight caramel aftertaste, but so subtle it is hard to pick up. I did not pick up any pecan taste as I plowed through the massive chunks that were layered from top to bottom in this experience. I am still amazed at how soft the mix-ins stay even frozen into ice cream that contain a very high buttermilk fat content. The solidity of the pumpkin and the sweetness of the butter cake give you so much flavor that it is surreal.
Overall if you love pumpkin you can not pass up this pint. After looking over my reviews and grading all the pumpkin ice creams I have had this one ranks damn hear the top at the #2 spot. Besides the heavier spice in Handel's and an amazing marshmallow swirl the butter cake is sensational. It is hard to downgrade this one, but I did want a stronger spice presence in the base to make it the GOAT.
