Blue Bunny Cookie Butter
Blue Bunny Cookie Butter is labeled as "Speculoos Cookie Flavored Ice Cream. Cinnamon Graham and Speculoos Caramel Swirls. Speculoos Cookie Dough Chunks. Limited Edition." This is my first scoop ever of Blue Bunny because it is a generic ice cream. I am more oriented towards scooping premium ice creams, but I do love me some cookie butter. lets see how good this flavor stacks up against some of the other cookie butter ones I have tried on the market!
First of all Blue Bunny is not a premium ice cream, and you can tell by the density of the ice cream. The ice cream will temper within 5-10 minutes of sitting out as it is light and airy compared to a top tier S&S, AH, Graeter's that is much denser in buttermilk fat. The flavoring of the speculoos cookie flavored ice cream reminds me of snickerdoodle cookies. It doesn't have the extra kick like if you ate cookie butter right out of a jar. There are small hints of honey and gingersnap that seep through , but not enough to give it a true cookie butter flavor.
The speculoos caramel swirls were straight caramel. There was not much cookie butter or speculoos flavor to it. Just think a rich and sweet caramel swirl that engulfs the outer side of the quart. The cinnamon graham swirl is much more noticed as you dig deeper into the quart. You will strike thick chunks of that swirl from scoop to scoop, but nothing that is consistent from top to bottom. The star of the show is the speculoos cookie dough chunks. The cookie dough chunks are bold in brown sugar, and have a cinnamon snickerdoodle aftertaste. They are loaded all over the place and have a soft, moist, and chewy texture to them.
If you are a fan of cookie butter I think Blue Bunny did a good job, but I got more of a snickerdoodle vibe to the flavor. The degree of cinnamon sugar and graham cracker are dominant from first bite to last. The caramel swirl is light, but packs a luscious taste as it swirls from the sides through the center of the quart. If you got a quart like mine you get chunks of cookie dough in each and every bite which was fantastic. I have read a lot of reviews on this flavor before I finally saw it in my area, and I have to say this is worth the scoop!
