Nice thread idea. I feel bad for everyone who doesn't have access to Blue Bell.

This just got me thinking of an interesting combination: Blue Bell Italian Cream Cake mixed with strawberry milk for a milkshake. My parents mixed the ice cream with actual strawberries and said it tasted really good that way. Strawberry Cream Cake Shake?

I really do. i saw your review of christmas cookies in july and was looking forward to them this month. but it looks like theyre not even in rotation. Not sure why they didn't bring that one back this July. Christmas Cookies will hopefully be back around during the holidays. This just got me thinking of an interesting combination: Blue Bell Italian Cream Cake mixed with strawberry milk for a milkshake. My parents mixed the ice cream with actual strawberries and said it tasted really good that way. Strawberry Cream Cake Shake? Sounds pretty delicious. I'd hate to see those whole pieces of cake get messed up in a blender though... Part of the reason why I always have felt ICE CREAM > SHAKES. I'd rather have whole, unblended mix-ins.

I have no access to BB, therefore this thread does not really exist. yeah same here, had 1 pint when i was in CO, and it was pretty good for the kcals. Not as rich as what you like (graeters, Jeni's) but for 200 kcals a pint and a lack of mix-ins, its not bad. Some pints list 4-5 mix-ins but they are very sparse.

This is really difficult for me. Blue Bell, for me, is more than an ice cream. Maybe that sounds silly, but it's true. My grandma lived right outside Brenham, where Blue Bell is made. Every time we'd visit her we'd take a trip to the creamery and take the tour, see the video of Blue Bell's history, and get a free cone at the end. My parents always bought Blue Bell for special occasions, birthdays, etc. It was a mortal sin to have a slice of fruit based pie without a scoop of homemade vanilla.
So it's hard for me to choose a top 5. It would probably change based on the week, but recently I've been really digging on these flavors:
1. Italian Cream Cake. 2. Rockslide Brownie 3. Butter Crunch 4. Red Velvet Cake 5. Dessert Trio
Honorable mentions go to Southern Hospitality, Southern Blackberry Cobbler, and Mint Chocolate Chip.

Never had blue bell and have yet to see it on any of my travels. I feel like I'm really missing out on a few select flavors.
When i find, which flavors should i look for?

I always have some Blue Bell in the freezer. Since being diagnosed with diabetes I'd all but given up hope of finding a good low sugar ice cream, then I found the No Sugar Added Blue Bell and it is the best grocery store ice cream around. My problem is I can't resist buying vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry all at once and then they start to go bad in the freezer. Blue Bell could provide better packaging than the flimsy paper containers. I've tried plastic on the top but what I really need is a 1/2 gallon round plastic freezer container that the paper box will fit into for better preservation in the freezer. Does anyone out there know of such a creature? I've been searching for hours and found nothing that will work.
Thanks, and now I'm going to search your site for some home-made low sugar ice cream recipes and pull out my Cuisinart ice cream freezer.

I always see their No Sugar Added ice cream and have been curious. It sounds perfect for someone suffering from diabetes. As far as keeping your cartons from getting freezer burn, that is a problem. I'm guessing they don't offer a Neapolitan? Cartons and pints don't usually last very long in my freezer so I rarely have that problem. I bet that your idea of getting a large tupperware like container with a lid that you could sit each carton inside could cure your dilemma.

Nice work, and as I'm sure you've found out. 1/2 gallons > pints when it comes to Blue Bell.

You could let the ice cream soften a bit and then put scoop it into smaller freezer containers. That way you can help control the portion a bit too. I have used the Talenti containers to do that before, but you probably wouldn't get any of those since they are definitely not sugar free. I am sure any freezer safe container would work.

Even though I haven't tried nearly as many Blue Bell flavors as I'd like, based on what I've had, here's where my ranking would currently stand:
1. Gingerbread House 2. Lemon Bliss 3. Natural Vanilla Bean 4. Mint Cookies 'n Cream 5. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
I've yet to try their French Vanilla, but the more I think about it, the more I look back and appreciate their Natural Vanilla Bean. It's one of the few times I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, it's well worth buying a full half-gallon to experience. Their Homemade Vanilla is impressive as it is (looks like I even converted my mother, a die-hard Haagen-Dazs fan, since she bought a pint of Homemade Vanilla over HD's Five, saying she liked the fact it's light), but their Natural Vanilla Bean even makes that look subpar. That might just be me, but the fact Blue Bell half-gallons are $3.99 this week makes Natural Vanilla Bean to resist.

Not a bad Top 5, although I wasn't much of a fan of either Lemon Bliss or Mint Cookies 'n Cream.. However, I have been eyeballing the Vanilla Bean flavor for quite a while now as I'm a huge fan of vanilla bean ice creams. Would you rate this higher than Haagen-Dazs' Vanilla Bean? I may have to pick it up real soon!
