Great idea for a thread right here! Granted I haven't had any bad ice cream recently, I was a bit let down by Blue Bell Rockslide Brownie. I was hoping this one would be a home run and even though I gave it a B, it could have been much much better. If we're talking of all-time, I'd go with Blue Bunny's 24 Karat Carrot Cake and Red Carpet Red Velvet Cake. Hated both. Rockslide Brownie was a disappointment to me too! It was basically their Rocky Road with some (for me) annoying marshmallow bits tossed in. Very underwhelming.

For me it would be Mayfield ice cream. This brand is bland at its best. It boggles my mind that there Classic line of ice cream is better tasting than there more expensive Select brand though not by much. For example I had their Snickerdoodle ice cream that had a base that barely tastes like cinnamon and the cookie dough pieces were just nasty. After trying this lackluster flavor, I went and picked up Kroger Deluxe Snickerdoodle which blew this out of the water with a ice cream that actually tastes like cinnamon and cookies pieces that I would eat on there own. Here's a pro-tip for you. When I try out new ice cream, I get some milk or soda so that I can turn the ice cream into a drink just in case it does not taste good. Just put in enough milk or soda to drown out the ice cream taste. I find it easier to drink bad ice cream than to eat it and then I am not completely wasting my money. This trick is also useful to use on ice cream that has melted and refroze.

Mayfield? where do you live? never heard of it I live in Georgia. Mayfield Dairy has a small distribution area that is located in the southeastern states. You can go to <http://www.mayfielddairy.com>, click on the About US tab, and click the Our Distribution Area link to see where they sell ice cream. You can also see their ice cream flavors where they list the Select (=premium?) and Classic (=regular?) brands of ice cream that I mentioned. I really only eat their ice cream for their Classic Lemon flavor which is pretty good. Most of their other flavors I can get a better version from Publix or Kroger.

In Baton Rouge, a major disappointment has been Kleinpeter's Ice Cream. Kleinpeter's is a local dairy that makes excellent organic milk and has a very good reputation. A couple years ago they decided to foray into ice cream, and it was eagerly anticipated. Many grocers actually reduced the freezer space allotted to Blue Bell to clear more room for Kleinpeter's, which was positioned as challenging Blue Bell.
Three years later, BB has reclaimed all that space, most grocers have eliminated KP ice cream entirely, and the ones that still carry it only carry 4 or 5 flavors. The problem? Kleinpeter's initially came out with only basic flavors like Vanilla and Chocolate, their price point was more than BB, and the ice cream itself was just bland. Not bad, but nothing special, no reason to switch. And when they finally came out with more flavors, they chose common stuff like butter pecan and cookies and cream, which again were not bad but no reason to switch from your existing favorites either.

B&J Vanilla Heath Bar---Had virtually ZERO heath. Just flakes B&J Everything but that---Had ZERO heath and lots of nuts B&J Blondie Brownie----is just a bad flavor. What a dissapointment Steve's Salted Caramel----had almost ZERO swirl, only some on the bottom B&J Peanut Butter World---my first pint had an extremely small swirl and was pretty much chocolate ice cream Graeter's Watermelon Sorbet--I was required to buy it to get their test flavors. It contains ZERO fruit and is essentially kool-aid Totally agree with Ben and Jerrys Vanilla Heath Bar. I have purchased it 3 times, and each and every time, there has been minimal/no Heath Bar pieces. I will never buy it again. Compared to Coffee Heath Bar Crunch (One of my favorites), its night and day as far as Heath Bar pieces.

I'm going to make a few people shake their heads with this one...
I actually do not care for Peanut Butter Pie from Haagen Dazs at all. I normally love their flavors, and noticed PBP had a top rating here, so I bought it, and...sigh...not impressed. The base was weaker than a newborn's punch, and the swirls were bland. The cookie was the best part, but even that was relative. I also think it might have been a refreeze, because the texture kind of reminded me of Breyer's. Not happy at all.
Pleasant surprise was the Green Tea flavor.
