Gelato Fiasco Torched Marshmallow S'more Gelato
Gelato Fiasco has been a very good brand to me and I have enjoyed tons of their flavors from Cookie Therapy, Wild Blueberry Maine, and the Peanut Butter Gelato I have got to try. The only unfortunate experience was that the fresh market was out of S'mores the first go around, but the second time I ventured back to Columbus I luckily got to scoop this gelato because it was back in stock. Without further wait let us see where this gelato goes into the Fiasco Gelato lineup for flavors.
Torched Marshmallow S'mores Gelato is described as "Chocolate Bar Pieces and house-made marshmallows are kindled into graham cracker gelato" After reading that I had high hopes this would resemble the base of the Dairy Queen S'mores blizzard which was very graham cracker and cinnamon heavy. After popping the lid I was present with a very light brown looking base (Graham Cracker), and tons of flakes that looked like chocolate bar pieces shattered into shreds or as Ben & Jerry's like to call them flakes. I did not notice much marshmallow, but hopefully I would soon reveal that in the gelato.
Upon my first bite I was absolutely blown away by the graham cracker base since there are not many ice creams that offer something so unique. The flavoring was a replica of the Cinnamon Graham Crackers you can buy in the grocery store with a very sharp and distinct aftertaste that left your mouth craving more. Many may be thrown off thinking S'mores may be heavier in the chocolate department which is not always going to be true. My last encounter with S'mores from Wegmans had a very heavy marshmallow base that was one of the best marshmallow bases I have ever encountered, this was a strong graham cracker, while B&J's is more of a mediocre Chocolate. Out of all 3 this was the most unique base I have ever dug into between the S'mores varieties I have tried. Digging further into the pint the marshmallow then began to pop out.
Overall this is a very unique and flavorful gelato that should get a look. If you are a S'mores fan you will get a very heavy Graham Cracker base with a good cinnamon like after taste. The chocolate pieces in the gelato are not large in size they resemble the fudge flakes like you would find in a Ben & Jerry's pint which are very mediocre in size but all over the place and in abundant amount. They key feature is the torched marshmallow after a few bites you get full globs of a very soft and gooey marshmallow like it came right off a campfire and melting in your mouth. How they input this into an ice cream without becoming on the harder side and staying in a very gel like and soft like texture is beyond me, but it took the pint over and above expectations. There is no hesitation this is an A Flavor, but for my favorite S'mores I would still rank Wegmans S'mores above it because of the heavy Marshmallow base/swirl, the unique graham cracker base is great, but the mix-ins for the Wegmans pint are heavier (graham Cracker Swirl and larger chocolate chunks which give it the edge. Dairy Queen S'mores Blizzard would rank 3rd overall between those 3 selections and Ben & Jerry's 4th.
