After going to the store to get a few items i saw this on sale for 2$ so i could not pass it up. After having nothing but 2nd Street, Jenni's, Ben n Jerry's, and Graeters the last 2 months i figured i could get away with a quick switch up and see if this lives up to the name of Breyers. I have had some experiences with Waffle Cone, Reese's and Smores in the past and they were all good dont get me wrong but nothing that premium can deliver, for the price i would have to give it a shot and not pass up a deal.
Breyers' Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough is labeled as: "Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pieces and Chocolatey Chunks in Cookie Dough flavored frozen dairy dessert" While you get exactly what you expect lets break it down to see if each part of the formula lives up to its name.
The base is supposed to be cookie dough, but it really gives you a swirl factor to be honest, its like a vanilla/cookie dough mixture that is interesting, not very strong, but you get a hint of both. Neither really overpowers each other so that makes it unique and a bit different than generic bases of ben n jerry's and graeters for example. While I was shocked trying this i would have to rank it as good BnJ's vanilla or a bit above because of the inclusion of the cookie dough hint flavoring in every single bite (even if you do not get a chunk of cookie dough).
There is no aftertaste in any single bite, but the be honest the amount of mix-ins were incredible. This reminds me of Ben n Jerry's Nutty Caramel Swirl with the chocolate chunks and fudge chunks in that pint (Nutty Caramel Swirl) but instead of small nuts and caramel swirl's in this you get cookie dough kind of swirls and small circles of cookie dough in almost every single bite. In the spoon shot you can clearly see the cookie dough balls and if you put them close to a penny, two small balls would be larger than a penny. What is nice is that you either get chocolate chunks or cookie dough balls in every single bite, so the mix-ins are not lacking.
To be honest I was surprised with this and will give it a B Overall for the amount of flavor and mix-ins that breyers packs in their pint for 140 calories per serving (4.5g Fat, 23 Carbs, and 2g Protein). Its pretty remarkable for the kcals, as i had lower expectations, but i will take it for what its worth and the price i got it for. This was way better than a DQ Blizzard or something i would pay a bit more for in general.
Overall Score: B
