New Orleans Ice Cream Co King Cake
New Orleans Ice Cream Company King Cake is labeled as " Rich Cinnamon Ice Cream with creole cream cheese flavored swirl, packed full of king cake pieces and a delight of sprinkles" New Orleans Ice Cream Company is inspired from the food-crazed cultures and local tastes of the Crescent City and Louisiana. Using only the freshest, all-natural ingredients, our handcrafted, ultra-premium ice cream is a one-of-a-kind alternative to the same old scoop. I have scooped the entire line-up of over the years, and this new limited edition flavor is the next one up.
The rich cinnamon ice cream is exactly as stated from the brand. New Orleans Ice Cream Company has a high buttermilk fat, and base reflects that with the density of the ice cream. The ice cream is creamy, rich, and the cinnamon is not over the top. New Orleans Ice Cream Company found a happy medium with the amount of sweetness so you can enjoy this ice cream without it being too strong, which could turn consumers away. I enjoyed how well both the cinnamon and sugar complimented each other to make this a pleasing ice cream base.
King cake is made of a rich, brioche dough and a wide array of fillings, such as cinnamon, chocolate, and cream cheese. The cake is covered with a rainbow colored glaze and sprinkles, which are usually gold, green, and purple. New Orleans Ice Cream Company packed their king cake with extra cinnamon to enhance the experience of the base ice cream. The cake pieces are spot on in texture being moist and chewy. The best part is the buttery aftertaste the cake provides showing the freshness of the baked goods. The sprinkles do not add to much to the pint as far as flavor goes besides being colorful and a bit of crunch. The Creole Cream Cheese swirl is the trademark from the brand. Creole Cream Cheese is a form of farmer cheese in the New Orleans area that is made from skim milk, buttermilk, and rennet. It packs a slightly tart and sweeter taste than generic cream cheese, which makes it unique. With the cream cheese on the sweet side it pairs perfectly with the mild cinnamon base ice cream to make it the correct addition to this pint. The only knock I have is the consistency of the swirl could be better throughout the experience. It was patchy and was never concrete from top to bottom.
Overall this is a great pint, and with it being limited edition I would suggest grabbing it before it is gone. The base is great, the king cake pieces are what you would expect, but the consistency of the swirl was the only letdown. Do not get me wrong the quality of the swirl is top-tier, but depending on your luck with the amount you get will be the deciding factor on your grade. Make sure you grab this before it is gone!
