CaffePanna Peppermint Mocha Nociolla
Caffè Panna is inspired by the cafes and gelato shops of Rome, which are a ubiquitous part of daily life in the eternal city and serve everyone from Bambini to nonnas. CaffePanna's goal is to bring that same welcoming spirit and all-day accessibility to the heart of New York City, with an emphasis on delicious ice cream that marries elements of both Italian and American traditions. Every Day CaffePanna offers five staple flavors, and five chosen by the kitchen at the particular moment. The menu is always varying, which makes the shop incredibly unique and a must-stop in New York City.
Peppermint Mocha Nociolla is labeled as "Mocha Ice cream with Peppermint Oil, Junior Mints, and Hazelnut Swirl"
The base is unique because it combines both chocolate and coffee to make a fabulous mocha. The first hit on your taste buds is a rich milk chocolate flavor with subtle coffee that lingers into the aftertaste. Even if you are not a huge coffee fan this will not turn you away due to the density of the chocolate flavor. I personally enjoy the heavier chocolate to coffee flavor as it still gives you the best of both worlds. CaffePanna is able to capture all the flavors of mocha to a T with a lingering caramel that tickles on your taste buds.
There is peppermint oil in this pint, but it is so light that the sweetness does not overpower the density the mocha base brings. The junior mints are thin mint cookies that are crushed up and scattered consistently throughout the pint. The added crunch with the creamy base-pair very well together. The hazelnut swirl is without a doubt spectacular. I thought this would be hard as a rock when frozen in ice cream, but it reminds me of fresh Nutella straight from a jar with a nutty aftertaste.
When all elements come together this one is flawless. When I read peppermint on the label I got scared because I am not a huge fan. With it being subtle in the big picture it allowed the mocha, cookies, and swirl to do all the talking. This flavor slaps so hard, and it was hard to put my spoon down even after the entire pint was gone.
