Ample Hills PB Takes a Dip
Ample Hills PB Takes a Dip is labeled as "milk chocolate ice cream mixed with our housemade peanut butter cups and peanut butter swirls." This was a flavor inspired by PB Wins the cup. which has a sweet cream base, pb cups, and flakes of chocolate. I truly appreciate Ample Hills adding a swirl to this new flavor because when they are included it is a game changer when the consistency and thickness is on point. How well does this limited edition flavor stack on the Ample Hills lineup?
The milk chocolate base from Ample Hills is smooth and delicious. The density from Ample Hills ice cream is always on point with a premium and rich thickness in each and every spoonful. This flavor eats like a tall glass of milk that has been filled with Hershey chocolate syrup, swirled with a spoon, and mixed to perfection.
The house made peanut butter cups are carried over from PB Wins the Cup, and they are delicious. The mix-ins are very thick in texture, chunked up, but yet have a very soft texture that melts in your mouth. The rich sweet peanut butter cream filling reminds me of a buckeye candy that enhances the milk chocolate base. The only downside was there was two in the entire pint. The Peanut Butter swirl, on the other hand, was an absolute hit in my experience. The swirl is laced with saltiness and creamy peanut butter flavor. The thickness from top to bottom amplifies the peanut butter to chocolate ratio making this a fantastic combination. Even with the lacking amount of peanut butter cups, the swirl definitely carried the weight to make this a worthwhile scoop.
The decision to use a milk chocolate base with peanut butter cups and a peanut butter swirl sounded like a logical upgrade when the company was tinkering on making this flavor. Personally I am glad they did as American's thrive off peanut butter and chocolate. While this is a good flavor from the brand, a small enhancement in QC to provide equal peanut butter cups and swirl would make this right up there with the classics.
