Ample Hills Summer of Love
Ample Hills does not have to get complex to make good ice cream. Some people may get bored with just one single inclusion, but the overall execution with the collaboration with Baked By Melissa has been a hot seller. Personally the base was airy compared to my previous encounters with I Contain Breakfast Foods, Sweet As Honey, and The Flavor or Record. Therefore it did not live up to the Ample Hills experience.

Ample Hills Summer of Love is labeled as "Sweet cream ice cream with pieces of Baked By Melissa tie-dye cupcakes." Ample Hills teamed up with Baked by Melissa to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. With their signature tie-dye cupcakes lovingly swirled into their classic sweet cream ice cream. This is the first time this flavor has been made available for online ordering, so I did not hesitate on pulling the trigger.
The sweet cream ice cream is a staple in the Ample Hills ice cream cookbook. The ice cream is dense, rich, creamy, and packs an everlasting luscious aftertaste. The amount of sweetness and cream blend together very well with a high butterfat content to enhance the flavor. For some reason this flavor did not seem the same as you would find in the other flavors on Ample Hills lineup. This base had a higher overrun and was airy. I don't know if this was just a hiccup in the packing, but it did make an impact on how the base tempered, and the overall density of the ice cream.
The tie-dye cupcakes are tasty. The cupcakes have a basic recipe of butter, sugar, eggs, flour, and milk with tie-dye coloring. Each bite has a soft texture with a lingering buttery undertone. The overall sweetness of them is apparent, but there was room for improvement. Since the cupcakes had to be mass produced for tons of orders I assumed these would be on the dry side, and lacking in consistency. I was wrong on both accounts.
