Haagen Dazs Peanut Butter Salted Fudge
Haagen Dazs Peanut Butter Salted Fudge is labeled as "Decadent swirls of salted fudge and the crunch of chocolate covered peanuts blend with smooth peanut butter ice cream" Considering one of my favorite flavors ever from HD was Peanut Butter pie this holds some similar elements. How good will it truly be? Lets find out.
If you ask me HD is one of the most overlooked for a grocery ice cream when it comes to premium bases. They are always on point with dense and rich flavored ice cream. When you dig into this peanut butter ice cream the labeling of smooth is on point. The best part is this is not a peanut butter that lacks the saltiness. The salt helps enhance the flavor and really make the smooth peanut butter pop. It is not like eating peanut butter out of a jar like PB Pie was with their mix-ins, but for a base its solid, but not a top tier like a Salt & Straw, Ample Hills, or Clementines could create.
The swirls of salted fudge are present on the base, and all the way throughout the entire pint. The salted fudge has the thick richness of chocolate and the perfect salty compliment to get it to hit your taste buds even harder. It is not as strong as Salt & Straw Almond Brittle with salted ganache or Little G's Peanut Butter Brittle & Salted Fudge, but has enough salt to really enhance the experience. The crunch of the chocolate covered peanuts was a nice choice to mesh with the salted fudge and peanut butter base. The only downfall was I did not get too many of the peanuts as I would of liked. The consistency of the swirls and chocolate chunks (literally 1-2" in size) were enormous and really stole the show during my scooping of this flavor.
After reading a few other reviews, and then looking at my pint I have to say I got blessed with a lot of mix-ins. Therefore my grade may be a bit higher then what you see from others. The sheer amount of chocolate swirl , chunks, and peanuts I got was superb. My pint weighed in more then what the package stated (3.5 servings at 104g and mine was over 400g). This shows you the overall density of mix-ins I got in mine compared to a normal consumer. I won't complain I am a sweet and salty slut and this really hit the spot. Make a stronger peanut butter base and more chocolate covered peanuts and it would of been an A Experience.
Grade: B+
