Graeter's Oatmeal Raisin Cookie
Graeter's Oatmeal Raisin Cookie is labeled as "crumbles of oatmeal and raisins in our rich, creamy ice cream with a subtle dusting of cinnamon." This is yet another summer bonus flavor that will be exclusive to online orders and scoop shops. It is great to see Graeter's step out of their comfort zone and shy away from the signature chocolate chips. Using raisins and oatmeal cookies is something unrefined and a real guessing game on how good this flavor can really be.
The base is very similar to Cheese Crown which was a cheesecake based ice cream. With Oatmeal Raisin Cookie it is almost like a pure cinnamon base due to how strong the "dusting" of cinnamon is. The cinnamon is very strong and packs a sugary aftertaste to give the oatmeal raisin cookie a brown sugar cinnamon vibe. The density of the ice cream due to the french pot processing helps enhance the bold flavor packed in each and every bite. If you enjoyed what Cheese Crown brought to the table you will love this base!
The mix-ins were were a 70/30 split of raisins to cookies. While I would of loved to have more cookies that is just how the cookie crumbles. The raisins are fresh and pack a sweet aftertaste to them. I at first thought these would be rock hard while frozen into the ice cream, but I was wrong. The quality of the raisins in each bite are packed like they are fresh out of a carton in the grocery store. The oatmeal cookies are chunked up throughout the ice cream. When I had my sample scoop in store it looked like a chunk of raw oatmeal. When I got home to the 3 extra scoops I bought I found some larger chunks. The cookie pieces are good, fresh, and have the perfect chewy compliment to the raisins and base.
With the sheer amount of cinnamon flavor found in the base it pairs well with the two mix-ins. Overall I am pleased. I would of enjoyed some thicker cookie chunks and a larger ratio of cookies to raisins. With that said it is a good flavor, and if you have a Graeter's nearby you should give it a scoop!
