Handel's Snix
Handel's Snix is labeled as "Peanut butter ice cream with a caramel swirl and chocolate covered peanuts.". After hearing a local Handel's had this I requested them to put it in the deep chest to store one away for me as I drove down to Pittsburgh. Snickers are a delicious candy bar, and to see a company try and put this in an ice cream will be interesting. I did not sample this as the line was huge when I was checking out, so I hoped for the best on the limited edition flavor.
Handel's Peanut Butter ice cream is absolutely fantastic. First you are presented with a dense peanut butter flavor, next comes the creaminess of fresh peanut butter, and lastly a salty aftertaste. This hits the trifecta of every aspect in a peanut butter you would want. Some companies fall short on one aspect, but this has them all. For those who hate companies that don't have the salty aftertaste in peanut butter this will be your jam. The base alone was delicious and this set the bar for a great pint.
Right off the bat the peanut clusters and caramel swirl are in the very first bites. While the caramel swirl is not really a "Swirl" per say it is more of a ribbon. It is a very small in size that makes it way from top to bottom in each and every bite. I was hoping this would get as dense as Twixter, but it never got thick or big enough to do that. The peanut clusters however are everywhere. The ironic thing is all of them vary in size from very small to much larger like Graeter's chocolate chips. The outer layer is a rich milk chocolate with a nice crunch from the peanut.
Overall this one was very enjoyable and one of my favorite flavors from Handel's. With a larger swirl like Twixter this would give Buckeye, Salted Caramel Pretzel, and Graham Central Station a run for its money as my favorite flavors from Handel's. If you are a fan of snickers and peanut butter this is a flavor you can not pass. Unfortunately I think this is a seasonal flavor that comes and goes off the menu. Call ahead next time you visit Handel's and ask for it if possible!
