Ample Hills The Hat Trick
Ample Hills The Hat Trick is labeled as "Cheesecake ice cream with M&M's, Peanut Butter Cups, and Brownies". What is not to love about some of the best candy and desserts all thrown together into one ice cream? This flavor was made for the NY Rangers making the NHL Playoffs. I have never had an Ample Hills cheesecake based ice cream before, so this makes me wonder how good this will come out!
The base itself was good, but could of been better. The cheesecake is dense, but does not have a sweet or luscious aftertaste to it. When I think of cheesecake It usually packs enough sweetness to make my insulin levels rise to another level. Ample Hills delivered on the bold tasting cream cheese portion of cheesecake, but not on the sweetness level. With a stronger sweetness added to this base it would really make it set off.
The mix-ins were insane in this pint. I actually weighed it on my scale and this was around 440g which is larger then usual for shipped pints (350-370g range). The sheer amount of peanut butter cups, brownies, and m&m's were crazy! From top to bottom in every single bite I had more mix-ins then I had ice cream. The peanut butter cups are very straight forward, they are not far off a regular reese peanut butter cup. A great peanut butter filling with a rich chocolate flavor to them. The M&M's are straight forward with a great crunch and chocolate addition to this pint. The brownies are one of Ample Hill's best mix-ins. They are much better then B&J's even sourcing them from Greyston Bakery. Very soft, moist, dense, and have a great fudge aftertaste to them.
Overall this was a good flavor, but with an improved flavor it could of been a great flavor. There was nothing wrong with the mix-ins especially the quantity I had in my pint. For a limited edition flavor I would suggest picking it up (if it does come back), but Ample Hills has much better things offered on their OG Menu.
