Little G's Ice Cream Holiday Sugar Cookie
Little G's Ice Cream Holiday Sugar Cookie is labeled as "Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with sugar cookie chunks, sprinkles & red and green buttercream frosting swirls."
First of all the vanilla bean ice cream is exactly what you would think. Ever drink a vanilla bean coffee creamer? Yeah that is exactly what Little G's brings to the table. The base is not super sweet or luscious like a Graeter's ice cream, but has a dense vanilla flavor. For those who like a strong vanilla and not sweet this is right up your alley. Besides breaching the surface and getting ice cream you are then loaded with nothing but mix-ins. I would put it up there as a good base, not great. Due to the amount of Cookies & Sprinkles/Swirls included in the pint it takes away from tasting the base and the overall experience of the vanilla bean flavor.
You get a sugar cookie chunks inclusion, which tends to give the base a slight upgrade in flavoring. The sugar cookie chunks are very dense, and provide an extremely chewy texture. I got a chunk that stretched over 1" in diameter that I had to break up because it could not fit on my spoon. Probably a good problem to have right? The sprinkles add a slight touch of sweetness and crunch to the base. The buttercream frosting swirls which are both red and green do provide an extra kick. While people may think this pint will be super sweet it was not. The swirls do enhance the base which help give it a luscious aftertaste. I had two little patches of swirls, while some others had chunks that swirled from top to bottom. I seem to be hit or miss with the swirls in my Little G's offerings so far, but needless to say they taste great!
Overall this was a good start into the winter flavors. While i was expecting this to be very sweet it was not, so for those who don't have very big sweet tooth it would not turn you off. The cookie chunks were the highlight with how moist and delicious they were. Each spoonful I had at least 50% cookie chunk and 50% ice cream. Combine in the swirls and sprinkles added to this offering and it just built on the sweetness. For those who love frosting and birthday cake based ice creams this is a good pint.
