Gelato Fiasco's Supernatural Spirit Satisfaction
Gelato Fiasco's Supernatural Spirit Satisfaction is labeled as "Whiskey Infused Chocolate Ice Cream, Marshmallow's & Chocolate Covered Almonds
". Again I am not a huge booze guy, but have had a few in the past that were very good. Ben & Jerry's Salted Caramel Brownie-Ale, Jeni's Rumball, Graeter's Bourban Pecan Chocolate Chip & Ample Hills Hell's Kitchen Sink. While all of these were unique and diverse they offered variety to the lineup. After having a half dozen Gelato Fiasco flavors I am intrigued how strong the booze is, and how the mix-ins match the base. Lets see if this one is worth the scoop in the limited edition 6 pack.
Digging into my first bite I got about 95% milk chocolate and 5% hint of whiskey. I was actually shocked that the whiskey flavor was next to nothing. For labeling a product whiskey-infused it seemed to be minimal. While I am not complaining not being a big booze guy, that may turn off a lot of customers. The milk chocolate base is good, but not as good as the dark chocolate sea salt caramel gelato they offer. The milk chocolate has a step down from a generic Hershey bar, but this is a step up from the lackluster Ben & Jerry's chocolate base. Overall the base alone is good, but could be better to some of the other chocolate offerings out there (Ample Hills, Graeters, and Salt & Straw).
The mix-ins offered in this pint are mini marshmallows and chocolate covered almonds. Gelato Fiasco did a watered down whiskey infused rocky road flavor. Personally the marshmallows found in the S'mores gelato were much better, bigger, and fluffier. These were still good, just much smaller and more profound throughout the pint. The mini marshmallows after breaching the surface were in every other bite. The chocolate covered almonds provided a dark chocolate coating and a fantastic crunch to the pint. I was actually surprised how many mix-ins I got for this pint because Gelato Fiasco can be hit or miss. My blueberry maine pint I got almost nothing, this one was loaded from top to bottom. The consistency has been a huge step up in the first few pints I have gone through.
Overall I enjoyed this, but whiskey or booze fiends may be left shortchanged. The milk chocolate base was middle of the road which will drop the overall score a few points. Gelato Fiasco is really on point with the mix-ins in the limited edition pints and did a good job. If they had the torched marshmallows found in the S'mores pint I think that would enhance this overall flavor. Another thing they could of done was a marshmallow swirl and focused on just chocolate covered almonds throughout. I think that would of made this a better pint. Overall good, not great, but still something I would recommend.
