Gelato Fiasco The Goods:
Gelato Fiasco The Goods is labeled as "Taste of big bananas with the crunch of candied nuts. With chocolate chips". For most people banana ice creams are hit or miss. Personally I am not the biggest fruit fan, but enjoy it from time to time. Steve's Banana Pudding & Wegmans Banana Peel-N were both fantastic offerings. Lets see how a gelato stacks up against these two flavors, and what GF has to bring to the table on the MSMT Pack.
Popping the lid the banana gelato looks very creamy, and was starting to melt around the edges. Upon tasting my first bite the banana flavoring was good. The ripeness of a banana fresh out of the grocery stores is very present in each and every single bite. While the banana is not overpowering, it is not dull and packs great flavor for being a gelato. The key thing with Gelato Fiasco is the pure creaminess the pint offers. If I were to compare these to Steve's and Wegmans it may be a bit unfair as those are premium ice creams. Flavor wise this stacks up to them in terms of density, boldness, and richness of banana for the base. For Banana fans they will be happy just scooping the base alone.
Candied nuts are a great mix-in especially if they are done right. Pecan Sticky Buns from Ben & Jerry's was a great pint that reminded me of this. The nuts offer a perfect crunchy texture, and a delicious sugary aftertaste. Gelato Fiasco was really going for the "Banana Nut" flavor here, and they did a great job with the one two punch. The candied nuts were consistent from top to bottom while the chocolate chips were hit or miss. The addition of chocolate and banana is a great combo, but adding all three together pairs for a great trio. The chocolate chunks remind you of shards of a Hershey chocolate bar as it is pure milk chocolate. To some people they would prefer dark chocolate and banana, but beggars can not be choosers. The chocolate did help enhance the overall taste of the pint, but would be better if there was more then a few pieces.
Overall I was pleased. Usually I am not the biggest fruit fan, but enjoy it from time to time. Gelato Fiasco did a great job with the base, and also put together two good compliments to take this to another level. The Candied nuts were delicious, sugary, and luscious in each and every bite. The lack of chocolate chips took the score down, but it was a perfect addition to a banana gelato. I personally walked away from this one with a higher score then intended, but I am not going to complain. If you like chocolate and banana's this will be one for you. The sugary vibe from the candied nuts gave it the banana nut flavor with the added chocolate twist. All in all a good one!
