Baskin-Robbins Mom's Makin' Cookies
Baskin-Robbins Mom's Makin' Cookies is labeled as "Brown sugar-flavored ice cream filled with chocolate chip cookie pieces,
chocolate flavored chips and a delicious cookie dough batter ribbon." This will be my first experience with Baskin Robins ever, and I have heard some great reviews on this flavor. According to On Second Scoop this was a great flavor, and several social media reviews. Going into this pint it has a lot of flavors and combinations that suit my taste buds. Lets see how this quality lives up to other brand names on the market.
First off is the brown sugar flavored ice cream. A lot of reviews claimed this was too sweet, or it was just right. Personally I love sweet things. Think Ample Hills Sweet as Honey sweet, which is like eating bee pollen. I have had Ben & Jerry's Pecan Sticky Buns (Buttery Brown Sugar Base) & Ample Hills Butter Pecan Brittle which has a homemade brown sugar ice cream base. The quality of the ice cream is not as dense as Ample Hills, but on par with Ben & Jerry's. The amount of brown sugar is delicious, but again does not pack the flavor Ample Hills provides. It gives you a strong brown sugar initial taste, but fades very fast in the aftertaste. For the first time having Baskin Robins this was a good initial surprise. Not only did this base pack flavor, but it left me wanting to dig right back into for another bite.
It was not long before I started to hit the generous portion of mix-ins in this pint. Luckily I had a huge chunk of a chocolate chip cookie right at the surface of my pint. The cookie had a crunchy consistency and was firmer than a Chips-Ahoy cookie which are like fresh cookies out of the oven. The crunchy cookies combined with the softer ice cream base to mesh together very well. The chocolate flavored chips are scattered throughout the pint, and give you a semi-sweet chocolate compliment that hinders behind the brown sugar ice cream and cookie chunks. The cookie dough batter ribbon is a huge asset to this pint which enriches the base perfectly. It gave me a reminiscent of 2nd street cookie dough swirl, but not producing as much flavor.
Overall for a first time experience with Baskin Robin's I was very satisfied. This store bought pint had the consistency of Ample Hills and Salt and Straw as far as compliments go. While the base is not up to par with quality of some of the top dogs on the ice cream market it was satisfactory. The combination of brown sugar and cookies left a very good flavor mixture. The small amount of chocolate chips gave you a brown sugar chocolate chip cookie replica and had a powerful swirl of cookie dough. I have heard some hit or miss reviews on Baskin Robins, but this was a very positive encounter. I will be checking out more flavors in the future.
