New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Chocolate City
New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Chocolate City is labeled as "A Politician's Faux-Pas Inspired This Chocolate Ice Cream with White Chocolate Chips"
While basic on paper, we know how NO Ice Cream Co can get creative with mix-ins and their delicious ice cream flavors. The pint gets the creative description from making fun of the post-Hurricane Katrina speech of former New Orleans mayor, Ray Nagin.
Upon lifting the lid you are presented with a fine dark chocolate base and a lot of chocolate chip mix-ins. The initial taste is very dense and loaded with a heavy high-butterfat content. The amount of milk chocolate in each bite is surreal and packed with a luscious flavor. The thickness of the ice cream is denser than previous pints I have encountered (Rum Raisin, Mardi Gras Pie, Mint Chocolate Cookie). The richness of the chocolate taste gives anyone who enjoys chocolate a reason to dig in for seconds.
The mix-ins of the white chocolate chips are in abundance. Some ice creams pack a very hard, rock-like chocolate mix-in while these are the opposite. The white chocolate chips are perfectly sized like you would buy in a grocery store baking aisle. They are soft enough to not break your jaw, but melt in your mouth with every single bite. The quality of the white chocolate is very potent and leaves a great one two punch with the milk chocolate base.
Overall if you are a chocolate lover look no further. NO Ice Cream Co did a good job on packing a very dense and bold flavored base with a perfect white chocolate compliment in chocolate chips. I would not hesitate to pick this one up, but for those who do not enjoy white chocolate it may turn you down. Lots of mix-ins, a very powerful base, and a good mix of white/milk chocolate leaves me lingering for another pint! If NO Ice Cream Co decided to combine the chocolate chunk mix-in with the milk chocolate ice cream base I fear it may have been too rich for many, they made a smart choice in using a white chocolate compliment.
