Talenti Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Gelato
One of the Seven new pints off the recent Talenti Release Oatmeal Raisin Cookie sounds quite delicious. It is described as "gelato with sweet raisins, dark brown sugar, cinnamon and oatmeal cookie pieces". Will this live up to say Ben & Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie Chunk that was discontinued? After having Salted Peanut Caramel, Tiramisu, and Coffee Toffee I have been pretty pleased with the new offerings so far!
At first glance there are little specs of Raisin and Cookie Chunks. The first bite was quite interesting to say the least. There is an oatmeal cookie replica in the base but it is pretty faded. You are surrounded with the brown sugar and cinnamon after taste with an initial oatmeal cookie flavoring. I would have to say if you have had Ben & Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie Chunk that will pack a stronger base flavor.
Lets talk about the mix-ins included in this pint specifically the raisins and the oatmeal cookies. Talenti is known to load pints (Think Sea Salt Caramel), and this one was pretty decent with the small little cookie chunks and raisin pieces. The Raisins offer a very minor taste to the pint, I personally think they take away from the flavoring because of how lackluster their flavoring is to a real raisin. They are soft and chewey just like the oatmeal cookies. The oatmeal cookies are exactly as you would expect nice, soft, and crunchy and provide the perfect compliment to the base.
Overall its a good pint, but its nothing to go nuts over. Oatmeal Cookie Chunk if it were still out reigns supreme over this one by a margin. The base is good do not get me wrong, it just has a stronger cinnamon and brown sugar taste to it as the oatmeal cookie flavoring of the gelato fades. The raisins were a bit of a let down, but the oatmeal cookie chunks made up for it in the end. Would I Re-Scoop? Possibly, but Salted Peanut Caramel was better. I have yet to try Hazelnut Chocolate Chip which gets the most rave of the new flavors.
