New Orleans Ice Cream Co. White Chocolate Bread Pudding
New Orleans ice Cream Co. White Chocolate Bread Pudding is labeled as "Our Version of a new orleans Classic Dessert has chunks of White Chocolate Bread pudding, that hints of custard and Bourbon Sauce."
Right when I lifted the lid I was presented with dark, alcohol-filled stripes of sweet, bourbon sauce swirl. I also noted light-colored custard ice cream that holds bountiful bits of bread pudding. The potential here is large, but like Banana's foster most of my swirl was right on the top. I hope this is not the case as I dig deeper into White Chocolate Bread Pudding.
Upon first bite I really liked the White Chocolate bread pudding base. The Custard is very dense in flavor, has a long lasting aftertaste, and has a great sugary compliment. A very dense white chocolate flavor (like the bulk candy you can buy in the grocery store) with a sugary twist describes this base best. If you have a sweet tooth you may have a hard time putting just the base alone down!
Lets talk about the mix-ins including the bread pudding and bourbon sauce(Swirl). Right upon lifting the lid the sauce is present (similar to the brown sugar/rum sauce in Banana's Foster). After digging into that with my first bite the bourbon reminded me of a thick buttery/syrup swirl with an alcoholic kick. The swirl had me thinking of Steve's Sunday morning for a bit with a hint of the Bourbon Pecan base from Graeters. The bread pudding mix-in was loaded all over the pint. New Orleans also threw a curve ball with small white chocolate chunks incorporated directly into the bread pudding pieces.
The Bread pudding pieces melt down quick as you venture down the pint, but the amount of flavor in this pint has you lingering for more. With a very dense and bold flavored white custard base, and plenty of mix-ins this gets a high grade. The thick syrup/buttery bourbon sauce has a great compliment to the heavy custard base. Thrown in Bread pudding pieces (literally the size of gumballs) & white chocolate pieces packed inside this pint has a lot going on. If you enjoy White chocolate, custard, or bread pudding this has all of those elements perfected into ice cream.
