Ben & Jerry's Save Our Swirled
Ben & Jerry's new limited edition flavor Save Our Swirled is labeled as "Raspberry Ice Cream with Marshmallow & Raspberry Swirls & Dark & White Fudge ice Cream Cones" on paper that sounds unique and different from the company. Now how good is this Raspberry base going to be? The first time we have also seen Dark & White Fudge Ice Cream Cones. While Ben & Jerry's are diverging into limited edition batches with new things will they be a hit? Lets find out.
When you lift the lid you are presented with a light raspberry looking base, and the presence of both marshmallow and raspberry swirl's. No signs are present of the new inclusion of White & Dark Fudge Cones. With that said I was very eager to see what the raspberry base would offer. After my first bite it was very light and subtle in flavor. After another my thoughts did not change as it resembles a very light raspberry creme. The flavoring of the raspberry is not strong, dense, or bold in flavor. While I had a bit higher expectations for the flavoring of the raspberry base it was the least appealing part of the pint.
The swirls on the other hand made up for the lack of flavor in the base. Raspberry swirls are present in "Peanut Butter Jam Session", and the new target exclusive "A Swirled of Difference" which is the same thing under a different name. The swirl is very bold in flavor, has an incredible after taste, and reminds you of scooping raspberry jam out of a jar. The Marshmallow swirl in this pint is just as good if not better than the raspberry swirl. The second I tasted it "What a Cluster" popped into my head where it has been seen before. The swirls amplify as you dig deeper towards the bottom. Some bites were chunks of swirl like a roasted marshmallow or a spoonful of jam.
The Dark & White Fudge Ice Cream Cones are very unique. The cone is half white and dark chocolate into one single candy piece. Essentially someone took a cone mold and filled half with dark chocolate and the other half white chocolate. The flavor is similar to bulk white and dark chocolate you would buy at your grocery store into a cone mold. The other benefit of this mix-in as they are loaded in this pint. I got well over a dozen of these mix-ins as seen in the picture above.
Overall Ben & Jerry's took a stab with this limited batch and throwing new aspects into their ice cream. I was a little let down with the strength in flavor the raspberry base offered. The marshmallow and raspberry swirls on the other hand made up for the lacking flavor in the base. Each spoonful combined the aspects of the swirls to compliment the base to enhance this pint. Lastly the inclusion of the Dark & White Fudge Ice Cream cones was a hit. These mix-ins are big in size, plentiful in amount, and provide a melt in your mouth mix-in.
