New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Bananas Foster
New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Banana's Foster is labeled as "A classic New Orleans Dessert is Given Life as Real Banana Pieces are blended with a Rich Caramel Ice Cream. Nutmeg and Rum add Depth To This Delight". The description is pretty interesting to say the least. A banana's Foster is usually Cinnamon, brown sugar with butter when being made as a typical dessert. To utilize a caramel base will be interesting to see how well they flavored the pint!
Without any description regarding a dense swirl or glaze I was presently surprised when i popped the lid. The thick, gooey, and delicious burnt brown sugar and caramel glaze was placed all on the top of the pint. Unique I have never seen this happen before, but this was something that really caught my eye. It would be like stating a swirl in a pint was all placed right at the top instead of throughout the ice cream.
At first bite that glaze was mind blowing. The nutmeg and Rum are luscious in flavor and very dense in aftertaste. Combine that with a banana & caramel complimenting base and you get a true banana fosters replica. The owner of the company stated "We tried to deconstruct the banana's Foster dessert and make an ice cream out of it". Well with that statement they sure did and did it within my first few bites.
As I worked through the pint I was very displeased with the amount of real banana pieces. I got one banana piece throughout my entire pint. Besides the amazing Burnt Brown Sugar Caramel Tasting glaze the banana base on its own is pretty mediocre. The title is misleading as its more of a caramel/banana base. The nutmeg and raisin I will say are in every single bite as a minor aftertaste that is faint. Overall they did a good job to replicate the dessert, but failed when it came to the mix-in aspect of the banana pieces.
