Jeni's The Buckeye State
Possibly one of the first flavors I ever had when i visited Jeni's over a few years ago while attending the arnold classic. Finally it took me long enough to grab a pint of this which I got off the Black Friday sale jeni's had and after going through my 4 other pints I left one of my favorites for last because this is one of their classics in my own opinion.
Jeni's "The Buckeye State" is a "Salted peanut butter yields to the crunch of exceptional dark chocolate for perfect balance. Our version of Ohio’s favorite confection." Coming right from Ohio and the heart of "Buckeye" land being very close to Ohio State, this is a classic flavor that is a signature of Jeni's ice cream. With that said lets dig into this pint and see what it has to offer.
Upon lifting the lid you get a very dense looking mix of peanut butter, and hints of a dark chocolate mix all in one. When you first dig into your first bite you are going to be very overwhelmed with the amount of flavor provided in this pint. At first you will get a large peanut butter flavor that is dense, creamy, and provides a bit of salty compliment. Then you get a small after taste of chocolate and vanilla mix. If you have ever looked up what a "Buckeye" is this makes a lot of sense. Being a dessert based off "a confection made from a peanut butter fudge partially dipped in chocolate to leave a circle of peanut butter visible."
While this may look basic on paper with the description if you are a peanut butter lover, and you have had Jeni's Dark Chocolate (Possibly the best on the ice cream market) you have a mixture made in heaven. The overall saltiness is a good compliment to the dense, creamy, and rich peanut butter flavor in every single bite. For those who enjoy of a Salty/Savory combo this is what you want in your life. Luscious peanut butter, added dark chocolate from Jeni's = two great compliments that leaves you wanting more after every single bite. The only drawback to some individuals with Jeni's is lack of mix-ins and price. In a perfect world if I could customize The Buckeye State, I would possibly add a peanut butter swirl, peanut butter cookie dough, or some kind of a chocolate chip, chocolate fudge, or chocolate truffles that would be an amazing addition to this pint.
