Jeni's Rumball
Going into this Pint I had no idea what to expect besides a solid base. Jeni's is known for their dark chocolate as one of the best in the industry when it comes to ice cream. Being this is "RumBall" and has to deal with being rum spiked I do not know how that would really treat me, in the end it could strike gold, or could be a major turnoff. Time will tell!
Rumball is described as "Rum-spiked Dark Chocolate ice cream with pieces of from-scratch rum-soaked cake." If you have ever tried Jeni's Cake, it may be something that will leave your mouth watering for another piece, and another piece, and another. Some of the richest dark chocolate cake you could ever imagine to test your tastebuds. Being that they do sell it in their scoop shops and I had the luxury of having some in the past put the dark chocolate and the cake together and this could be a match made in heaven. At 310 calories a serving and one of Jeni's highest caloric ice cream per serving I have high hopes.
Upon lifting the lid you are presented with the very dense, dark, and luscious looking chocolate base. There are no signs of any kind of rum ball or rum-soaked cake mix in present on the top surface, but we all know how ice cream is with mix-ins and how you strike gold the deeper you dig. Upon taking my first bite I was blown away as expected. The rich, creamy, dense, and perfect dark chocolate crushed your taste buds and wants you to dive right back in for another bite. From first bite to the after taste it is just perfect. Jeni's I don't know how they do it but their dark chocolate is just magnificent. Still after a bite or two no sign of a rumball mix-in or rum soaked cake
After a few bites i started to run into the rum soaked cake mix-in pieces the pint was talking about, and they are not shy in size, but they do lack the amount of times you do run into them. Jeni's is not known to blow you away with mix-ins like a Ben & Jerry or Graeters. This is a hit, the rum soaked pieces are very moist, soft, and dense in flavor. Perfect reminder of the cake pieces in the scoop shops with a slight rum tasting flavor to it that does not take away from the dark and rich chocolate flavor. A perfect chocolate base with a dense, moist, soft and rich cake mix-in Jeni's has struck gold and possibly my new #1 flavor ever from the company. This pint is unreal. If you ever get your hands on Rumball do not think twice, this stuff is divine.
