Ben & Jerry’s Boom Chocolatta Cookie Core
It seems like the North East gets the shaft when it comes to getting new ice cream flavors and products, so after about a month of the new Ben & Jerry Core series to be released (Chocolate, Cookie, and Speculoos) they finally made their way to my area in Pennsylvania (at least the chocolate one did). So today that is what I will be scooping:
Ben & Jerry’s Boom Chocolatta Cookie Core Ice Cream is a mix of Mocha and Caramel Ice Cream with Chocolate Cookies, Fudge Flakes, and a Chocolate Cookie Core.. Seeing this on paper raises an eye because you do not get the basic vanilla and chocolate base that you normally see on the B&J line, and it has a good diversity of mix-ins (at least that is what it states) on the label. Lets see how this holds up.
Upon lifting the lid you get a nice presence of a mocha and caramel/Vanilla looking base. Upon first bite the mocha is not bad, a bit faint in flavor, but has a good coffee kind of taste like you would expect. The caramel on the other hand is under flavored to the mocha side. I wish Ben & Jerry would improve on a denser caramel flavor I think they could make some incredible products and mix-ins to compliment that base flavor.
Now for the mix-ins there are fudge flakes, these are very similar to the nutty pieces in nutty caramel swirl which are very small and remind you of a shattered piece of fudge or chocolate which are incredibly small. I wish Ben & Jerry would increase the density and size of them as well as the cookie pieces which I found to be incredibly small as well. The Chocolate Cookie Core was more of a chocolate core like other people have stated in their reviews as I was expecting something along the lines of the outside of an Oreo and the caramel or mocha to really compliment it like a filling, but that was not the case. Overall it's a decent pint, but I have higher hopes for the PB Core and the Speculoos Core. I think this is going to the the worst of the 3 new Core Series. While I thought the mocha was good because I am a coffee lover, Jeni’s Black Cat Base was light years ahead of this.
