Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Half Baked
After hunting for almost 3+ weeks for this to get released in the north east I finally stumbled upon this gem in my local wegmans. I just so happy to see the freezer guy stocking it the first day it did arrive at the store(which is always a good thing). And had to wait no longer and pick up this gem that seemed to drop from Ben & Jerry's. After seeing their new core line dropping 3 flavors with more to come and the PB Brownie Sundae which was fantastic I had very high hopes for this.
Peanut Butter Half Baked is labeled " Chocolate & Peanut Butter Ice Creams mixed with Gobs of Peanut Butter Cookie Dough & Fudge Brownies" It is good to see Ben & Jerry's get more PB bases in their lineup. While their chocolate has been improved over the years i still prefer their vanilla over their chocolate. Seeing the mix-ins of Gobs of peanut butter cookie dough and Fudge brownies i was excited. The Brownies in PB Brownie Sundae were hands down better than any previous pint in the past and Greyston bakery is really turning it up a notch with how soft the brownies are and the size they replicated in PB Brownie Sundae, with that said I expected the same in this scooping.
Upon lifting the lid you see a very profound vanilla looking base which is actually their PB base and a good amount of chocolate to offset the Chocolate and PB base in the pint. There are no visible indications of PB Cookie Dough globs (a first in a Ben & Jerry Mixin) or Brownies, but i am soon to probably find those. Upon first bite the PB base is good, but I wish it had a little more density and flavor to it. It reminded me in flavor wise of a PB2 powdered peanut butter (in other words just lacked flavor and density i was expecting like in What a Cluster or PB Cup). The Chocolate on the hand is good, but again not the best I have ever had (Jeni's spoiled me).
As i dug down the pint i finally got to see the brownies i was expecting. Massive, thick, and also very moist in flavor. Previous pints of Ben & Jerry's usually had harder or tough mix-ins, now they are very moist and remind me of Ton's of Brownies from 2nd Street Creamery as far as texture and taste go which were awesome. The Peanut butter cookie dough pieces were scattered, while I wish there were more of them beggars cannot be choosers but added a great touch and compliment to the pint. Chocolate and Peanut butter are winners in my book, throw in brownies and cookie dough and perhaps one of my favorite mix-ins when I do visit coldstone. My only gripe would be a little bit more of the mix-ins (i only had 2 brownies but they were great size) and around a half dozen peanut butter cookie dough globs. Besides that the PB Base needs a bit more flavor and this would be a top tier flavor.
