Jeni's Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso
Jeni's Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso is "Ground Intelligentsia espresso beans steeped in cream. The sweet, complex flavor and pungent aroma of fresh espresso is encapsulated and translated perfectly" When looking at this on paper it seems diverse, but honestly Jeni's took a very good coffee bean and made one hell of an ice cream in the making.
Jeni's to make this ice cream used Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso ice cream, steep roasted and ground Black Cat Espresso beans in grass-grazed Ohio milk. The beans—Intelligentsia’s signature (and most popular) roast—have a rich, complex aroma that super-charges our ice cream with a scent that unfolds slowly.
Upon lifting the lid it looks like a very rich and flavorful coffee signature. There are specks of the beans that are mashed up in the Jeni's homemade milk that are used in all of their signature flavors and ice creams. I had very high hopes for this flavor because 1 I am a coffee lover, and after sampling it at their scoop shop I was blown away! While it looks very plain and not much to offer, the amount of flavor and packing it has is what blows you away and makes you think about going right for a second bite.
From the first bite you are presented with an underwhelming kind of vanilla base, and then the second it hits your throat the after taste of the coffee beans really kicks in full throttle. A very rich, lighter roast bean nails you from all aspects full of flavor. Luscious, rich, and creamy all in one instant hit are the flavors that surround your taste buds from first bite to last as you mow down the pint. While this may be basic with just a solid coffee base it has to be hands down the best coffee base I have ever had. When you mix and combine a solid foundation with Jeni's ice cream and mix in a very popular Chicago based coffee bean that has been in the works since 1995 you strike gold.
