Talenti Pumpkin Pie Gelato
This seasonal gelato was such a pain in the butt to find because none of my local supermarkets decided to pick it up. Thankfully when I went to visit a friend outside of Columbus I was lucky enough to get the last pint of this when I went to visit a local Fresh Market. Needless to say the lady who was working the freezer section was nice enough to hold the last pint in the back for when i did finally venture to the store so I could give it a scoop!
Talenti which is known for a fantastic soft tasting gelato seems to have listed Pumpkin as the fourth ingredient on the list. Showing you that maybe the pumpkin flavoring may not be as strong for a gelato labeled "Pumpkin Pie" Only time will tell on how good this really was or if there are other pumpkins out there that would take the cake in comparison to this.
Upon lifting the lid You notice a very smooth looking pumpkin base and no signs of a swirl or mix-ins like you may encounter in Southern ButterPecan (Pecan's/Swirl), Sea Salt Caramel (Swirls/Truffles), and other offerings like Choc PB Cup loaded with mini peanut butter cups. I was hoping there would be larger chunks of a pie crust but all I found were small little crumbs scattered throughout the pint. Some may argue after reading reviews there was a slight swirl, but I did not really pick up on one during my encounter.
The first bite was phenomenal. The first thing that jumped into my head was a quick comparison with how strong the cinnamon and nutmeg spices are that jump right to your taste buds, after that you get a nice after taste of a strong and rich pumpkin flavoring. The overall amount of pumpkin pie spice in this is surreal to the point of bursting with flavor in each and every bite that you take. How talenti packed so much flavor in a pint that is only 220 kcals a serving is pretty remarkable to say the least.
Overall if you are looking for a very strong pumpkin spiced flavor gelato look no further. The amount of cinnamon and nutmeg that jump out in every bit with a lingering aftertaste of a pumpkin pie will strike you upon first bite. As you continue to take a few bites into the pint you will encounter small traces of graham cracker crumbles that tend to blend in well with the overpowering base Talenti provides in the Pumpkin Pie gelato. If there was an added legit swirl like found in southern butter pecan, or scattered mix-ins like Chocolate peanut butter cup or Sea Salt caramel this may be one to rival the best ever made for a pumpkin offering. For the pure strength of the base alone I would have to rank this in my 3rd or 4th overall favorite of pumpkin choices out there on the market.
