Private Select English Toffee Caramel
After having Huckleberry Pie from this brand I was very pleased with my first go around, and picked up several other pints when I made a trip to Columbus. Next up I will be taking down English Toffee Caramel, and I still have plenty with pecan Pie, Extreme Moose Tracks, and Hazelnut Fudge still to come! First of all English Toffee Caramel Ice Cream is labeled as " Chocolate-Covered bits of Crispy English Toffee folded into Caramel ice Cream Swirled with Caramel Sauce" So if I am not mistaken this will be give a bit of a crunch, have a nice swirl, and be a strong flavored Caramel Ice Cream. Let us soon find out!
Upon lifting the lift you notice a very vanilla looking base, besides the label saying a caramel ice cream I was quite skeptical how this was going to play out. The bits of toffee are far noticeable and they are all over the play scattered around the pint. There is just a fleck of a looking for a caramel sauce or swirl which should be detailed in this pint, but maybe we are soon to find out.
After the first bite I was mistaken about the vanilla base, this right away reminded me of a perfect sweet and salty combination very close to Ben & Jerry's Salted Caramel Core, or Salted Caramel Blondie (which i had the experience of in the scoop shop). Private Select has a good combination of caramel that is not as dense as say a 2nd Street base, but this is still good for the amount of calories (230 per serving). I had a few Toffee Chips which were not rock hard, but had a great crunch to them and a milk chocolate taste to them.
As I moved down the pint the Caramel Swirl really picked up, and started to resemble that of a core series from Ben & Jerry's because of how dense it stuck in the middle of the pint instead of being dispersed. Even labeled a caramel sauce it seemed to bind pretty much right around the center, and left a few streaks around the lower levels of the pint. The Caramel which was on the lighter side but had a great salty kind of compliment to it made a good sweet and salty combo that was delicious. The Toffee Chocolate Pieces were all over the place, a bit on the smaller side but provided a good crunch and a nice milk chocolate taste to the mixture of Caramel and Chocolate. Overall this was not a bad selection for 230 calories a serving, it had everything the pint labeled, and provided a great pack of flavor and mix-ins.
Score: B-
