Gelato Fiasco Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp
After having the PB and Cookie I was very happy with my run of Gelato Fiasco, and now I have left is Blueberry since the Smores was out of stock when I was out of town to pick up this pint. After two good runs and reading plenty of reviews on this pint of gelato I had very high hopes and this sure did pack a great punch for a fruit flavored gelato.
Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp is labeled as "Remember blueberry crisp with a scoop on top? Our version has blueberries, crunchy oat streusel, and vanilla gelato. Wow.” Seeing the base layer I saw a great mixture of Blueberry Crisp and a nice vanilla gelato and little small brown specs which I would state was the crunchy oat streusel.
Upon first bite you get a very subtle and bold blueberry flavoring that is overlapped with an incredible vanilla gelato base. The vanilla gelato could be possibly the best vanilla I have ever had that is very rich in flavor and compliments the blueberry very well. I would have to say compared to the Graeters Blueberry Pie this has a much richer overall taste blueberry wise but the vanilla compliment from the gelato base is superb.
As you roll down the pint the little crust bits of the oat streusel are like little specs/flakes in size. Not only are they a good compliment to the pint to make it like a blueberry Crisp dessert, but I would have to knock off a few points because of how scarce they are. Its nice to get a small little crunch here and there, but would be great if they were more present. This may also be a reason why the pint is only ~ 220kcals a serving, if they made it mix-in heavy it could be up around PB/S'mores which is 300kcals/serving. Overall there is just a small lack of mix-ins but the blueberry and vanilla mixture for the base is superb the flavoring is rich in every single bite throughout the entire pint. For the calories/serving they did a fantastic job flavoring this making it hands down the best blueberry frozen treat I have tried since I have only had the Graeters to compare it to. Fiasco Gelato is no joke, next time I head back to Columbus I am going to grab a few more flavors to try out!
