Haagen Dazs Peanut Butter Pie
Haagen Dazs Peanut Butter Pie is " peanut butter pie ice cream is made with ribbons of smooth peanut butter and soft chocolate cookie pieces folded into creamy peanut butter ice cream - an indulgent combination sure to be a favorite in your home." After seeing this in the store I had to pick this up being a massive Peanut Butter lover and seeing where it ranks among the PB masses of ice creams out there! PB World, PB Gelato Fiasco, PB Cup, Buckeye Blitz, Buckeye State among some of my favorites as well as What a Cluster/Clusterfluff are some that come to mind.
Upon popping the lid it was present that there is a nice Peanut Butter layer of base topped with loads of little Peanut Butter Chunks and little chocolate cookies/chips that are all over the surface. Even though the pint is caloric heavy that must mean there is either a lot of the mix-ins or the PB base is very rich. Noticing the amount of ribbons and little cookie chips/pieces I had a huge feeling this would live up to the name on Mix-Ins as I have read in other reviews.
Upon first bite of hte peanut butter base it was nothing short of what was expected. Consistency is dense and the ice cream has a nice kick of sweetness to it. Just like a perfect salty peanut butter would taste like. It does have a salty taste with a touch of dry finish but since there are also globs of peanut butter and chocolate bits all of the flavors compliment each other to make a peanut butter dream come true. The mixture of the thick texture of the peanut butter, with the creamy peanut butter base makes it a smooth finish from top to bottom as the ribbons seem to just get larger in size the more you consume the pint.
Overall it is no surprise here that the pint just gets ridiculous with mix-ins as you continue to go further and further towards the heart of the ice cream. Instead of ribbons they should of stated peanut butter globs on the package, as the cookie chip/pieces does suit its name and are larger than i expected them to be from previous HD experiences. These were not "Graeter" size, but still had a nice chunk to them which was very promising in the end. The overall peanut butter base was not the most powerful peanut butter flavor, but the nice creamy texture and saltiness combination gave it a great taste. Pair the base with tons of peanut butter and chocolate mix-ins for those peanut butter and chocolate lovers you sure have a winner if those are two of your weaknesses or major cravings. Overall I would say base wise i would have to rank PB Gelato Fiasco as a richer base, and B&J's overall with the pb cup/clusterfluff base may be pretty identical with it being a touch denser and HD being a bit creamier and saltier with their peanut butter flavoring. No complains from this pint, nothing but everything I expected it to be and a bit more with the dense mix-ins.
