It's become a pretty debated topic on another forum I frequent, so I thought I'd start this thread.
How long do you sit your ice cream out at room temperature before digging in?
I personally let mine sit out for about 3-5 minutes with super premium ice creams, less with others. Then I enjoy with a plastic spoon.
I've found that this method provides the most pleasant experience for me.

Most of the time when I initially purchase and ice cream and come home, I'll dig right in. Sometimes it depends on the brand, but I'm one of those stubborn, impatient guys who thinks "I want ice cream and I want it NOW!"

Usually straight out of the freezer or just a minute or two if it's B&J.

There have been to many times when strait from the freezer turns my spoon into a slingshot. I let it sit just long enough that this doesn't happen lol

I bought special ice cream eating spoons so I can pretty much do whatever the hell I want, when I want. Oh yeah.

Only time I was forced to wait was for the yoplait greek froyos. Those were rock hard straight from the freezer. Other than that, I hammer it straight from the freezer.

Only time I was forced to wait was for the yoplait greek froyos. Those were rock hard straight from the freezer. Other than that, I hammer it straight from the freezer. That's true. The Yoplait pints really need some thawing out time for the flavors to develop at all.

Usually straight from the freezer (although sometimes with B&J, by the time I can scoop out enough to satisfy me it's been a few minutes). And then I eat it really slowly, so by the end it's all melty anyways. So maybe a combination of all of the above?

I guess I'm in the minority. I usually let mine sit out for almost ten minutes. I think I've done this ever since I read this on the Haagen-Dazs website a few years ago:
"to deliver the best flavor and texture, allow your Häagen-Dazs products to soften at room temperature for approximately 10 minutes, depending on the actual room temperature and the temperature of your freezer."
...and so I guess I do this for any and every brand that I purchase...

I start eating it right away, but slowly, because I love my ice cream half frozen.
I guess the equivalent of 5-10 minutes

Give it a go next time and let me know your thoughts on it. I also enjoy scooping with a plastic spoon like you, which makes it even better IMO!
